Addressing a frozen smartphone

Like desktop computers and any other computing devices out there, probably not the calculators, can get frozen and arrogant to take any inputs from you, with no response. The major difference between a frozen operating system and inputs is, that there are not many ways you can deal with it. Before you start dealing with your phone

Dealing with apps

If the device comes back to its usable state, you can take a few more steps. If you find that the moment you open up a newly installed app and the system freezes, you may want to uninstall the app until the next update shows up, or look up an alternative to such an app. Other times, the operating system might be the culprit causing random system freezing or such issues, right after a new update.

You want to be extremely careful about your decision here and not waste time looking at other apps if it is obvious that the new OS update causing the system to freeze. In such a case, either revert to the previous version or wait for the new patch to be released from the OS. If the device out of the blue, randomly freezes up the moment you use apps like GPS, camera, etc. It could be the hardware have some sort of issue and needs proper service.

Soft reset

Other times, the device may come out as unusable after the soft reset. In that case, you need to look for the manufacturer documentation on how you can boot up the device into special modes that allow you to remove offending apps, repair the OS installation, reset the device to factory default, etc. If all of these fail, you need to send it to a service centre or consider buying a new one.

Broadcasting to an external monitor issue

Modern mobile devices have the capability to broadcast to an external monitor. It can output the video onto the monitor you want to connect to or project on. If done properly, the process is automatic. Just plug some adapter into your mobile device, plug the adapter into the external monitor’s appropriate port like VGA, DVI, DP, or HDMI, and it should work fine.

In reality, broadcasting a mobile device onto an external monitor is filled with problems. The right process to eliminate these problems often vary from device to device, followings are the few tried and true things you can check, when your device fails to connect to an external monitor.

  • Is the source on the external monitor correct? Every monitor, TV, and projector has a range of inputs. Does the external monitor point to the right source?
  • Do you have the correct adapter for the device? For instance, Apple comes out with five different kinds of video adapters, and there are numerous kinds of adapters out there for android for Androids. You need to make sure you have the right kind of adapter that your device supports.
  • Check if your adapter needs its own source of power.
  • For HDMI type, did the HDMI detect your device and the external monitor? You need to perform a reset on one or both devices to let the HDMI set in to see the connections and set itself accordingly.
